Can I get some help?

I currently own the Sprint LG Optimus S smartphone. I have tried several different methods to rooting it however each one is unsuccessful. Can some one point me to a link, or post a "dumb *** guide to rooting you LG Optimus S" on this post for me? Last root attempt I tried was to install "z4root" and run the option for both "temporary" and "permanent" root settings and got nothing. Am I just ed or is there something I am missing. I am new to rooting phones, but have some fairly decent pc knowledge, I just wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something new.

Not gonna lie, Im kind of embarassed to ask such a "stupid" question, but the only questions that are stupid are the ones that go un-asked. Anyone feel like helping me out?

If you're on stock zvd (I assume so because you're not rooted yet) then I recommend Gingerbreak 1.2. Just google search that, download it, install it, follow the instructions, and you're rooted. Works every time.

Just make sure you're on the zvd baseband, it's easier to root it that way. If you aren't, download from sprint's official site. There should be a topic here to show you how. Reminds me of how badly I wanted this phone rooted. Once you do have it rooted, have fun exploring all the custom roms. This community has nice ones

z4root is meant for old versions of android, I think eclair (2.1).

Since you aren't rooted yet, I assume your baseband--to check: Settings -> About Phone/Device -> Basebrand--is zvj, which is the latest sprint update. If this is correct, you need to (1) downgrade to zvd, then (2) root using the automated root by sfhub, run option a to root zvd (or zvh), Then if you want the latest update rooted, run option b. Then you'll be back to zvj, just rooted.If you are already on zvd/zvh, skip step 1.
