I'll try this tonight but as others stated, I need to use another com.

Just got my MSL from Sprint and it worked great, thanks man. Would this method work for an htc evo or similar?

Yeah, if someone could make a widget that lets you do this, like the hotspot one, that'd be sick.

When I activated my Optimus S with Sprint, I did it over the Web.

Was a new feature they just added, usually you had to call in.

When you change over from an existing phone, to the new phone, the process
will give you a bunch of information that you should print and keep!

It gives you a one-time MSL to use.

It also gives you a secondary MSL code - KEEP THAT ONE

It is the MSL for your phone - no need to call if you already have it
or did the activation from Sprints website!

amazing. I went from 2-3 bars to 6 solid bars at my house. With free roaming (SERO), I am very happy.

    Thanks!

Why does Sprint not know you are on another carrier with this hack. It seems that changing the PRL could change which towers your phone roams on, but I don't understand how it would make your phone roam for "free." The other company's towers report the use to your carrier and charge them, so I don't understand how this is working. Could someone explain it to me?

    Sprint doesn't charge for roaming.

    From sprint's website:
Sprint reserves the right, without notice, to limit throughput speeds, and to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if off-network usage in a month exceeds: (1) voice: 800 min. or a majority of minutes; or (2) data: 300 megabytes or a majority of kilobytes. Prohibited network use rules apply. See in-store materials or sprint.com/termsandconditions for specific prohibited uses.

These new terms and conditions will make it easier for customers to realize how much roaming usage they are permitted each month, as shown below:

    * Voice Roaming - 800 minutes or a majority of minutes
    * Data Roaming - 300 megabytes or a majority of kilobytes

Additionally, I found this, but am not sure if it is up to date:
    Suspension of Data Roaming Service
    * When customers reach their 300MB domestic roaming limit or $1,000 of international data roaming usage then their data roaming service is automatically suspended. This will help reduce unexpected overage charges for customers while controlling Sprint’s operational costs.

Suspension of Domestic Data Roaming Service
    * Occurs automatically when the 300MB limit is reached and lasts until the first day of the next bill cycle.
    * Redirects end user to a web page stating their monthly data roaming limit was reached.
o Customers on new plans (that charge a $0.25/MB domestic roaming overage rate) can:
+ Wait until the next bill cycle to continue roaming.
+ Choose to “opt-in” to overage charges from the web page and continue roaming.
o Customers on plans that do not charge a $0.25/MB domestic roaming overage rate can:
+ Wait until the next bill cycle to continue roaming.
+ Contact Sprint to switch to the new plan that charges a $0.25/MB domestic roaming overage rate.
    # Specialist must remove the Domestic Roaming Throttle (BDMTRM) SOC to un-suspend service after switching to the new plan.
    * Does not apply to:
    o On-network service
    o Select CL Unlimited Plans.

So, I guess from my understanding is that despite the roaming charge warning we get, you won't be charged for roaming unless you opt to be after you reach your data limit.

So nick, how do you use this for yourself? I'm sure Sprint's better than the roaming one at times, so you prob switch around, but as far as I understand, it's easy to switch back to the sprint one but to switch back the other, you would need a computer...

In my dorm I get **** service, so I apply this hack. When I'm on the go/at class I update my PRL and use Sprint towers.

When you do #2, do you guys get a message from verizon saying that your feature update could not be blehbleh? and *2 would open up the sprint zone?

It seemed to have worked okay but for data, it still feels as if it's pulling it from sprint's tower...

Speed seems same as Sprint's and I can't figure out if I've done something wrong...tried twice

Your EVDO connection isn't necessarily going to be faster. Maybe if you have better service. Verizon and Sprint both use EVDO rev. a

    "When I do *2, I get Sprint
    When I do #2, I get Verizon"

So I'm asking if you get the same thing. I just want to make sure it worked, because I get the same Sprint speed, but when I run speedtest on my friend's Verizon phone, it's way faster...

You can get your MSL by running this adb command:
    Code:
    adb shell getprop
Look for the line that says "[ril.MSL]: [xxxxxx]" and that's your MSL.

Just wanted to bump this thread and add the following:

    I tried PRL 40060 and 40065

40065 seems to work MUCH better for me - I wonder if its location?

I see Nick is in Chicago area?

I'm in the Seattle area, so much different location and cell market layout.

Anyone using PRL 40065 in the Pacific Northwest region?

Just browse around that credit link on the OP. Tons of great PRLs there. Some will work better than others depending on location.

Default Use with care (if not a VZW customer)

I've used this method for years. Works just fine if you are a vzw customer using say a sprint or us cellular or cell south prl as vzw will NOT disconnect you for 100% roaming. If you are with one of the other carriers they will send you a letter asking you to change carriers (and let you out of contract) if this type of usage continues for several months. As long as you roam less than 50% of your usage you are fine though. And yes I know this for fact, I was employed by vzw for years and several years with sprint and us cell. If you have not received a notice when roaming 100% of your usage then you're sliding under the radar . Also with sprint for example you will not take advantage of your free mobile to mobile, nights and weekends, etc. this method causes you to use your anytime minutes no matter who you are talking to or for how long. Anyway, just thought I'd educate alittle. On that note, has anyone came up with an app that will hotswap prls? This method is awesome on your normal feature phones since you have easy access to NAM 1 and 2. Just program your NAMs respectively making a call on the hacked one once to authenticate it with the network, then loading your new prl. Then it is just a toggle. Really wish I had the know-how to write something that would do this or a way to push a prl from sd card. My phone had the dialer codes for prl writting disabled

Thanks for the information. I don't think the Optimus S has a dialer code for swapping PRLs so the likelihood of having an app for this is minimal I could always be wrong though

PRL hotswapping would be so sick... I know for a fact I would use it almost everyday during the week (my school gets little to no Sprint coverage lol).
