Google is your friend. A ton of information out there.

A recovery is like BIOS and dos together. It runs before android so if there is a problem with android you can get into recovery and do something. Kernals are specific to devices, sometimes roms.

To put it in the most simple way possible.

-Kernel is like the brain,it controls if wifi can start. What cpufreq. you can run at,light's,camera.

-Rom is the actual system you see on your phone. It can be changed around with different apps, looks, preformance. It can be themed.etc,etc.

-Recovery this is your backup disk. It's part of what let's you switch around kernels, roms, themes, and backup and restore your past, present setup(rom).

If you don't have anything good to add to this thread then don't post in it.

That's what a forum is for,asking questions.

A kernel is specific to a device but not to a rom. The ramdisk is actually the part that is specific to the rom. That's why if you flash zefie's kernels they will just replace the kernel not boot.img.
If you flash nrom boot.img over thunder it will break certain tweaks but will still run.

so the kernel is like a PC's BIOS....there before WINDOWS loads...allows the disk drives to work...and the keyboard... or is the recovery the bios...

the rom then ..is the operating system..windows, linux, ....

sooo..you guys talk about mixing and matching kernels with roms...are there large benefits to this...or just changing custom roms to see what does better what one is looking for ???
