Firstly, thanks for the great info on this thread.

Using the instructions here, I reverted from VD to VC last night successfully. Since doing so accomplished my goal of once again being able to tether wireless using 'Quick Setting', I did not go as far as to root--just reverted.

A couple of questions:

- I reverted to VC instead of V9, since I figured the most up-to-date firmware that still had the tethering exploit was the way to go. Should I have gone with V9?

- Is there anything I'm missing out on (performance, battery life, speed) by sticking with VC instead of V9 or VD?

- Is there any way to get VD on my phone & keep tethering option without rooting?

Thanks bros

tether, etc

Well, you can tether in nameless rom as it's VC based, but it runs on the VD baseband so it's a little more updated than VC as I understand (flashed it last night instead of thundeROM, am very pleased).

To flash a you will have to revert to V9 and root first to add custom recovery but it's not hard and if nothing else it will rid you of the sprint id bloatware (my main reason for rooting), as well as give you the ability to run a nandroid backup.

If you're phone is relatively new you will likely not have a display in V9, but there is a nice post for getting around that with screencast which can be ran to emu the screen.

Also, that OTA download of the VD update I now refuse to install is hanging out on my phone somewhere, taking up precious space.

Is there a file manager out there on the market I can use to find it and delete this piece of bloat (without rooting)?

VC was rather short lived because of problems some people were having, primarily I think being stuck at the LG logo screen on a complete power down/up cycle, on both rooted and unrooted phones. If you are not having trouble with that I would stick with VC for the newer radio, the SD card fix, and new graphics drivers. If you are experiencing the LG logo hang, you may want to go back to V9 for the tethering.

VD "fixed" the tethering option, so only rooting and using say TR or Nameless will give that to you. With VD and Nameless, along with some other roms here, you will also get a user-specified clockable kernel that can possibly allow you to run some apps more smoothly (overclocking) and potentially increase your battery life (underclocking).

It is stored in /cache

Wipe that from Recovery and it is gone.

So the only appreciable benefit that we're aware of for the VD update over VC is the fix of the screen hangs and the random reboots? That's great news, since neither of those issues were a problem for me!

/cache

Thank you. I'm looking in my /cache folder using Androzip File Manager, and don't see anything in there.

I'm guessing I'd have to be rooted to take care of this?

Not sure if you need to be root, but you have to boot into recovery and wipe the cache from there.
Would really depend on if the stock recovery (assuming I've been following and you havn't changed it) has a wipe option, which I'm honestly not sure.

If it isn't there, it isn't there. If you want to be sure, just wipe cache from the Recovery menu. You don't need to be root.

Turn off phone
Home + Vol- + Power (Hold for a few seconds)

Download from here
[APP] z4root - xda-developers

Place in your adb tools directory (whereever adb.exe is)

In command prompt, type:

Alternately, you could just place it in the /data/app directory on your phone and reboot.

Tried both ways, still isnt working :(

It says its not a vaild file! this is driving me nuts!

must be something im doing wrong or this damn z4root file is messed up!

There may have been a mod to the radio too, but that is not entirely clear.

I did adb reboot recovery and got a the stock recovery up. Havent done anything from there If i do a factory reset will that work. I just want to see my screen again. You can see your screen so that's good, screen cast doesn't give you the ability to click though unless the phone is rooted so you will have to use the touchscreen, watching your computer screen for the feedback.

ADB has to be ran from a command prompt:
To launch a command prompt (in XP: start > run > type cmd || vista/7: start > (you will have start search or search programs and files) type cmd in there and press enter)
the commands you will need the most other than the ones listed are:
cd for change directory and dir to list the contents of the current directory.
cd / will change directory to your harddrives root.
cd .. will go up 1 directory meaning if you are under users in windows 7 it would knock you back to the root of the harddrive.
another fun shortcut that I love for cmd keeps me lazy and only typing what I need to.

tab will complete a file or directory name if you have already started typing it: for example if you have the kp500 dir it's actually got a nice long annoying name, tab will shortcut that if you type kp and hit tab from your root, if that directory is really present it will complete the name - tab does not work when you are in an adb shell

As for the cab files do not open or unzip any of them, simply copy them to the folders in question and rename if needed. You will pretty much never need to extract a .cab file manually most instances that utilize them are designed to extract them on use.

I did this process sunday and tuesday with 2 separate phones so not only do I know it works it's def fresh in my mind.

Please Help...tried to revert... I think I have a brick now!

I decided to revert to V9 after the OTA update using the procedure on this thread. I went through the complete process several times. Each time the LG Mobile Update Tool says it is complete, however, the phone is locked up. When I pull the battery and restart, it locks up when it gets to the Sprint logo in the boot process. Here is a copy of the log from the LG Updater:

15:18:59 : Step : S/W Upgrade Complete!

The last time I tried, to do the reversion I started with the ANDROID SYSTEM RECOVERY <3e> screen open, and had the following message afterward:

Finding update package?
E:Can?t find command file CACHE:recovery/command
Installation aborted. No valid image in CACHE.

If anyone has a way that I can get my phone running, I would appreciate it!
