Repeated Media Scanning

Media scanning on boot is bad enough with almost 2,000 songs on an external SD card, but something is causing my LG L-40-G (Android 4.0.3) to spontaneously scan again. And again. Not constantly, but often enough that it slows down other stuff (like phone calls).

Is there a trick or maybe an app that might detect and correct what's happening?

I would prefer not do a reset, but if I hafta, I hafta.

Welcome to Android Central! Constant activity by the Media Scanner often means there's a corrupt file somewhere. It might be difficult to locate it, though. You might want to try unmounting the card, removing it, and placing it in your computer, then running chkdsk as described in this guide: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...guide-using-chkdsk-fix-corrupted-sd-card.html
