Re: Rooting LG Spectrum
I agree I have to have root as well. At the least for backup. Don't know what it will take for some developers or hackers to get their game on. The revolution got some dev love and it was not even near as good as this handset. But I am willing to donate some cash to this endeavor if a Dev comes up with a way to root this hand set. If it were me with these skills I would want to do it just to prove I could and bear them at their own game. I am serious anyone interested can PM me

Re: Rooting LG Spectrum
Downgrading means flashing a version earlier then the 4.04 version that ships with the phone. I was able to find a 3.02 firmware, but the flasher is written in french and I'm not sure if I fully trust it. I will be doing more work on it once I know a Verizon store will be open and I can feign ignorance if something goes catastrophic.

Re: Rooting LG Spectrum
I figured but wanted to clarify. This is my first LG device. I have had several HTC devices and a few Samsung. I have rooted and used custom ROMS. But as I eluded to I never had owned a LG device and wanted to make sure I understand what they were saying. Please let me know if you get it downgraded and how you did it.

Re: Rooting LG Spectrum
yea I tried the Droid Razor and I could not stand it. Motoblur made me think I was downgrading to pre- 2.0 versions of Android. Also for being a Motorola device the signal strength was not that great. Over all the device for what was under the hood was disappointing. At times it lagged and I was also disappointed by the camera. The over usability of the Droid Bonic was much better. Hope the quad core phones come soon. I have a ASUS transformer Prime and love it.

Re: Rooting LG Spectrum
I played around with that method this morning for about an hour and could not get it to work. Worse yet, ADB now kicks me out of shell every couple of seconds. I will need to figure out what happened with that. If anyone else gets this working, I would love to know.

Re: Rooting LG Spectrum
yea I tried the method hpchoi411 posted over at rootwiki. I also had trouble using his method. Asked him to explain better but didnt get much help. So I am going to wipe my developer box and reinstall Android SDK and ADB etc. Still wanted to know which LG usb driver he used have not gotten an answer yet.

Re: Rooting LG Spectrum
While wading thru the XDA forums, it seems that a lot of phones released in the last week or so, or that have gotten OTA updates are now immune to Zerg and Gingerbreak. While this sucks that people are losing root, this brings me hope that developers will now focus on finding a new exploit now that the old ones are patched.

Re: Rooting LG Spectrum
The page in question is for rooting the Optimus, which we know can be rooted with Zerg rush. From what I can understand of the broken translation, it is as he described it, but it is not a root for the Spectrum.
Also, two things that have come up that may be of use later.
From a fully powered off state (holding the power button until the phone forces itself off)
Down vol + power = factory reset mode
Down vol + Up vol + inserting usb cable while holding both = download mode - 02-01-2012, 11:50 PM

Re: Rooting LG Spectrum
Yes I had also found the Down vol + power = factory reset mode but had not posted anything about it since it does not do anything for us. But the download mode now that might help us along. Yes I wiped and re setup my development box and that method still did not work but did open an empty word document when it completed...lol Also I was able to root one of my other phones here again with ADB and worked fine. As well as ADB would error with device not found if I did not have the correct LG drivers. So Still looking and playing with it trying to figure a way to get it rooted

Re: Rooting LG Spectrum
While playing around with one of the KP500 utilities, I was able to get the cab file for the 3.02 version to extract. All it gave me was 3 files.
VS920_WD_1_0_7_0.dll
VS920ZV3_02.S3_02.P58012.R5.wdb
VS920ZV3_02.S3_02.P58012.R5.wdh
No matter what I tried thou, the LG utility refused to flash the phone once the files were extracted, citing a "page error". If any of the above files make sense to you, let me know.
On a similar note, I copied the 3 files and tried to use the KP500 utility to extract the wdb file, but it keep crashing upon trying to extract.
