I didn't realize this was a touch based Recovery. Woe is me. But, Verizon already said they would replace it.
Where are you getting a CM9 rom? If you're trying to flash CM9 for the nitro, I can tell you that it will not work as your system will bug out from having wrong drivers/kernel even thou our phones are similar.

It does not matter what version of android you once had on your phone. These .cab files are used by repair technicians to fix your phone from any state as long as you can still boot into download mode. I just put the information here in a way so that your average person at home can attempt a last ditch effort to restore their phone and their by saving a lot of hassle for Verizon/LG fixing it. If you were on something other then stock thou, you will want to do a data wipe, hopefully before the system tries to reboot itself as the cache files will be seriously off.

well what I meant by returning to stock was that I want to flash broken out but I want to return to pure stock when the ZV5 update comes to the spectrum. idk if i have to use the .cab files or just use the cwm to return to stock.

p.s I also would like to know if the zv5 update is rootable using the same method for the zv4 such as the one click root method instead of dans

Also I dont know what u mean by before the system tries to reboot iteself... im thinking its going to be like the droidx which i had previously that i rooted and installed vortex..then when i was unhappy with it i would just sbf it back to stock just to root it again and install another rom.
also though after i sbf'd i would have to factory reset it to get it out of bootloop. I was thinking this would be the same..... sry i didnt actually do any of this yet for the spectrum but want to be sure theses always a escape route. plus i checked alot of other fourms so... ya

once you have CWM installed download the return to stock files neph posted here I have personally used this method and it works flawlessly. I was able to return my phone to stock while riding down the road with no pc or wires. I have also used nephs other method for returning ot stock which is a lot more work and a little more confusing for the average user but it works as well. It doesn't matter what rom you use though as long as you have CWM installed you can return to stock and get whatever updates you need.

Thanks for the link. I'm slowly amassing the files I need to finally flash Broken Out (now 2.0).

I'll eventually back-up some other stuff and make the leap.

Yeah, yeah Isaiah. "Just do it, lite!" I know.

You can just go right to Broken Out. Because it's a ROM, it will completely overwrite your stock ROM. There was is no need to make any sort of incremental upgrades.

First post updated with V6 links and warning about flashing this if you are stuck in a CWM boot loop.

The only thing you have to worry about when flashing Spectrum Roms is to make sure you do wipe everything IF you are moving from V3, V4, V5, or V6 to a different build type. If you are going from V4 to V4, no need to wipe first, unless the Rom dev says you need to.

I was wondering I keep hearing half *** answers and was curious if the LG recovery tool can bring a phone on BO 3.0 with blitz kernel and cwm back to complete stock.

.Cab files are more for unbricking then trying to just go back to stock. Please use the nandroid method in the other forum you are posting to as you run less chance of bricking your phone.

This worked great for me. I want to sell this phone, but no matter how many times I tried to wipe all partitions in CWM recovery it always booted up with nothing changed. Even all my data was still there. I'd never seen this on any other phone.
I followed the steps in this tutorial and it looks like I'm all good to go now.

    Thank you!

I've decided that this should be in it's own thread as it is relevant to most of the work going on right now and should not be buried inside of another thread.

Here is instructions on how to flash a new firmware. I take no responsibility if your mess up your phone in the process. If you do something wrong, you will brick your phone, especially if it's during the final steps as flashing the cab actually deletes your recovery partition before flashing the new one.

    Tools needed:

KP500 () - Personally hosted, so please don't hammer the site

LG Update tool from LG site ()

    .cab file containing your firmware
    3.02 -
    4.04 -
    6.00 -

Unified Verizon Drivers from LG Site or from your phone. (I went to grab the link from the site, but the Verizon drivers are no longer listed there. Putting your phone into charge only mode will activate a special area of the phone and Windows will show up a new drive containing the USB drivers)

An Internet connection on the computer you are flashing with. If your fire wall asks if you want to give the LG tool access to the internet, then let it. It will fail to flash otherwise.

    Instructions:

Charge your battery to full, not just 80% or so.

Run the driver package and let it run its course. Then set phone to Debug mode and make sure all additional drivers install correctly. If you have adb on your PC, you can test your connection buy running ADB shell and seeing if your phone connects correctly

Go into your Windows Device Manager and disable the device under Modems -> LGE AndroidNet for VZW USB Modem

Remove your battery and remove your memory card.

Reboot your phone in "Download Mode" (re-insert your battery and replace the back plate. Hold down vol up + vol down. Plug in usb cable while holding both buttons.)

I highly recommend using the official cable that came with the phone when doing a flash and not being on and USB hubs.

    Extract KP500 tool into a directory (i.e. C:\KP500)
Move your .cab file to the same directory

Run your KP500 file as administrator
Choose I "Flash with assistance (file .cab)
    Phone Model = VS920
Input the full path to your cab file including .CAB at the end (i.e. C:\KP500\VS920Z3_02.S3_02.P58012.R5.cab)
Input the full file name of your cab (aka version) without the Cab (i.e. VS920Z3_02.S3_02.P58012.R5)

Watch as the LG update tool pops up.

It will most likely tell you that your phone is disconnected. This is normal and to be expected

    Click Restart.

It will find your phone and go thru extracting the cab file and then extracting a .bin file.

At this point if you did something wrong with driver setup or not disabling the modem driver, you will get a page error. If you did it right, you will get a percentage indicator that goes past 15%. Every so often a message will go by about "model dll message not found". This is normal.

Wait for your phone to finish flashing and let it reboot on its own. I did not do a factory reset and everything came back as it was, but with a new firmware version. You may wish to do a factory reset just to be safe.

Enjoy the fact that you can now recover your phone if you do something wrong (in most cases)
can someone please help me, i cant find a download for the Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant anywhere on the net, and i cant get it from the phone as it is stuck in a bootloop so i cant follow this tutorial. i do have access to revovery mode and dl mode
