How to remove widgets?

This might sound like a dumb question, but I've tried several things and keep running into the same issue.

I want to customize the individual screens. I see the "themes". But I want to change the other screens, and want to remove the big yahoo news widget, the "Friends" widget, etc. It tells me I need to remove some before I can add more. How to I get those big widgets off there?

Nevermind, finally found it. Pressing down on the widget opens up the option to trash it.

^ Yeah....I tried dragging it off screen ,etc. But never "held" down on the widget itself. Duh!

I'm using an Asus tablet - this solution doesn't seem to work for me. I press down and I get box handles and can make the box very small but still can't get rid of the thing.
