I have the next two days off and I'm thinking I'd like to try Broken Out Spectrum. What do you mean by having recovery installed? Is Clockwork operational on the Spectrum? This is probably the one thing I've got to figure out, since I'm used to the ROM upgrade process.

Man, I want to do this the lazy way and just have someone tell me how to do it. But I really should know what I'm doing as I do it...

Good thing I have the time coming up.

well there is a lazy way to do it. the devs have made it easy. just use this process

once rooted installing broken out is easy. You just flash it from recovery.

And to answer your first question recovery is Clockwork Mod. you need that to install roms.

Since I'm already rooted, I just need to install Clockwork Mod, then?

I know how that works, I just don't know if I need to bother with the Touch version. I'll poke around a bit to see if I can figure it out on my own, but any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks

OK, I downloaded and installed Clockworkmod's ROM Manager. It opens fine, but when I try looking for ROMs, it tells me I have to install Recovery. I hit OK and the list of available phones does not include the LG Spectrum. Sure, it includes the Nitro but that's not the same phone (close, but not quite).

I searched "clockworkmod recovery lg spectrum" and eventually end up at RootzWiki, where it says to do a bunch of command line stuff. I'm OK with moving apps and such, but this just sounds too risky for me to mess with my primary phone.

It sounds like enough people have gotten it to work that it's reliable, but I'm just not sure exactly what I'm doing. You know, this really isn't important enough for me right now to mess with...

Maybe at some point I'll decide I need to really push my phone to do a lot more, but I'd rather wait for ICS than potentially mess up my phone because I'm doing something too unfamiliar to me. Yeah, I did just fine with my Incredible but that was because there was a lot more support out there. After all, I rooted and everything after having the phone for over a year. I've had the Spectrum for a few months now... and I'd prefer the community develop a bit more.

Yeah, I know I'm chickening out but I'll wait until there's a phone out I'd like to upgrade to before I risk bricking my primary smartphone. Unless first there's a simple way to do this all... So I'm checking out the provided link to see if anyone over there can help too.

    Thanks

When I installed the Popcorn kernel my camera didn't work. When I opened the camera app and tried to take a picture I got the message "cannot connect to camera". Any ideas. I am running android version 2.3.6, kernel version 2.6.35.11-perf ( lge@android-build #1). I have tried the rom but then my verizon visual voicemail doesn't work. I know I can use Google Voicemail but I actually prefer Verizon's.

LITE MAN!!! you are making this hard on yourself. You don't use rom manager to do anything with our phone. Once you have recovery aka clockwork mod installed you boot into it from rom toolbox or some other app that will allow you to boot into recovery. You do not install the rom while you are in the phones main screen.

it's a very simple process to install the rom though. Once you have root and recovery you just download the rom and put it on your sd card and then follow the simple steps to install the rom which are found on the roms developers thread.

the rom isn't built for 2.3.6 yet. it's based off of 2.3.5. So if you flashed the rom onto your phone even though you are running a different build I guess you're lucky it worked at all.

Michaelson is doing a stellar job with this rom. It's going ot be hard for me to leave it when others come out unless they have equal performance. We are lucky to have such a great dev working on our phone...even if he's the only one :P

I was chatting with a friend of mine the other day who has a rezound with a leaked ICS rom on it and he benched in antutu at 6500. and we are hitting 7500 now.

absolutely! I flashed it this morning as soon as i woke up! I can't resist updates :P especially when they promise performance increases!

And I notice a big difference even from 1.2.1

Battery life is much better. and the phone runs smoother which is hard to believe. The crazy thing is i know this phone has more to come for us. I still haven't got over 7500 in antutu though :[ I have run it 3 times and my highest is 7386.

I actually turned my sd card cache to 128k and now it's going as fast as it should be. As far as me not getting 7500 yet. I think that boils down to antutu just not giving a consistant score. But it could be the 100 apps I have installed. it could be a certain app I have installed others don't that is causing it. You just never know with these things. Not like it's a big deal anyway because I actually don't use my phone for games.

I figured out by myself that CWM Recovery was installed by One Click. Then I read it and went "D'oh!" But at least I know what I'm doing now, I just have to do it a wee bit differently than on my old Droid Incredible.

I just downloaded ROM Toolbox and it looks like it might actually be worth paying for. I need to try using the free version more, but it looks quite promising.

Now I just have to convince myself to do a backup and switch over to Broken out...

hahahaha... i know exactly where you are. this phone is the 1st one have a rooted and romed. The night i installed broken out, I literally sat there ready to go and stared at the directions for a 1/2 before i convinced myself to do it. I about my pants too. I wiped data, and couldnt find the broken out.zip, untill i realized it downloaded to a special folder. It was worth it though.

Yeah, it took me a year to root my Droid Incredible. Then it took me three weeks to put CM7 on it. I probably won't wait so long for Broken Out, but it might still be a week...

I just have to convince myself the only thing I really need to save off my phone is my contact list. And then I'll make a list of installed apps so I can start all over.

I'll do it. Really. Eventually. Sort of soon.

just do it lite. it's very easy. all you do is boot into recovery aka clockwork mod recovery using rom toolbox. and install zip from sd card in recovery. it's super easy. making a peanut butter sandwich is harder than installing the rom. when you download it to your sd card just use your file explorer to verify where it is on your sd card so you don't get lost searching for it in recovery. you could even hook your phone up to your pc while it's on and use it as mass storage and find the file and move it to where you know you will be able to find easily. But it's really a very simple process.

And i do recommend buying rom toolbox pro as it's a great app to have. It's by far the number root app for me. I've bought several as well. I own the pro version of titanium backup and super manager as well and for me rom toolbox is the best. You can eliminate so many other apps with having rom toolbox pro. Only thing I don't like about it is having to have an internet connection to use it. It does a license check everytime you start it and if you don't have the internet it will fail the license check and close the program. super manager doesn't do that which is the reason I bought it.

you can back your contacts up to your sd and reimport them from there. They should also back up through your gmail also. I used the app MyBackup Root to back up apps, sms, mms, and media info. Do a nandroid in cwm. Remember you can also go back to stock if need be.

Yeah, guys. I know these things. I'm just chicken. I don't know why, since I never had any issues with my Incredible. I know what I need to do. I just need to, you know, actually do it.

I'll get to it, probably next Wednesday or Thursday.
