Quick Question

I have a camera app from 4.2 that is supposed to be flashable, but have no custom recovery. Is there any way for me to install the app without the custom recovery?!

Open the zip, and get the camera app extracted. Go in root Explorer, and find /system/app/ then delete your camera.apk, and replace it with the one you just extracted (must be named correctly) then hit edit permissions, and change them to match this :

[x] [ ] [x]
(rwxrwxr-x)

Then reboot.

All of the recoveries work with the boot image found on the forum.

Nigel, what's this boot image for? Are you saying this boot image will work to boot ics AND allow the recoveries to work? Have I missed something?

Yes it should. I've looked at the init.rc and determined that it should provide unrestricted access to the boot loader and recovery partition.

Download Voodoo OTA Root Keeper to keep root, install ZVI update, re-download Voodoo OTA Root Keeper and restore root, then download terminal emulator and turn the commands in the above post.

Try the boot image HERE: [GPL][KERNEL] Nigel meets ZVI ;)

I disabled LG DRM, and disabled the re-flashing of recovery on boot.

And just to be on the safe side, if this doesn't work, how do I go about getting the original camera app back? Thank you so much for this!

Then don't delete the old camera, just rename it to camera.apk.bak

I still couldn't get the boot.img to boot my phone. I get stuck at the LG logo on boot and Enter the fastboot... on recovery.

I bootlooped right away...but now im back on zvd, rooted, flashing recovery, + kernel and then trying as many flashables as possible before i send this sucker away for good

I forgot what i did exactly to get mine to work,,,LG doesn't follow vanilla filename standards, they have a separate .apk in /system for the gallery and the camera, both named LGGallery2 and or LGCamera2 , so maybe delete both lg's and go straight Gallery.apk, but DONT install, place in /system, set permissions, reboot. Then place your .lib's where they belong.
