A year ago there were only 6,000 Android apps. Now the Android Marketplace is set to hit 100,000 apps!

At the Droid X event on June 22, Google said that the Android Marketplace had hit 68,000 apps.

That's pretty impressive.

But looking at the tracking data from Androlib.com, that 68,000 app number may have been from June 1, 2010, not June 22nd when it was stated. And 21-day old data in the Android world is pretty old.

As of July 10, 2010, Androlib put the app count at 90,692 app with about 700 new apps being added each day. If you color outside the lines a bit as shown in red above, and do some quick math, it looks like Google may announce that Android has hit 100,000 apps by the end of July. As always, these numbers include apps, skins, keyboards, etc.

That's awesome but half of those are the waste-of-time junk apps.

Oh well, if that's what we have to deal with to also have the great apos then so be it. Open source.

Kind of makes me wish someone would clean out all the crap that can barely be called "apps". But yes, 100,000 is quite nice. :)

But we are comparing the Android Market to the Apple Market which also has at least 50% pure crap. 39% of the Android market is paid apps but even many of those are crap I hope no one ever buys.

I agree that if it's a numbers game (which Apple has made it) then we have to count the crapps.

That is exactly it! We have just as much crap as they do! But we also have lists of amazing apps.

+1 Apple's marketing is good enough that they can make people overlook the fact that maybe 10% of the apps available (in any app store) are worth while and useful. After that you're getting copies of apps that are only slight variations on other apps. Sometimes that's good, but most of the time it's not.

I had a Pre and I remember Brighthouse Labs and how much that sucked when they started with their crapps in that catalog, and it isn't any better on Android.
