The price quoted is with a service contract. What you are asking for would require a purchase of a device at full retail price. Your best bet would be to just buy one from a seller on ebay, not through AT&T.

What Smitty is trying to say is in order to get the discounted price from AT&T you are required to sign a two-year service contract. If you don't want to pay for that service contract, you have to pay full retail for the device.

Even if you unlock it, you'll still be on the hook for the two year contract, unless you want to pay the early termination fee
