Re: RUMOR? Echo getting 2.3 on August 1st!
Well, NFC and WiFi calling were mistakes and have been removed from the website. I had a strange feeling about this update so I went and turned off scheduled update checks yesterday. Somebody at Kyocera missed a very important test case, by the looks of it.

Well, I went to my sprint store and they couldn't fix it. Was going to have a replacement mailed to me for $35. The woman said they couldn't order one for me because they were out of stock where ever they order them from, not sure exactly. Ended up getting a brand new phone in store, they kept one battery and the memory card, and I got everything else!
I got pretty lucky. I won't be trying to update again until this gets figured out.

Re: RUMOR? Echo getting 2.3 on August 1st!
I would welcome tips on getting back to my installed apps & settings after getting a replacement Echo.
Just plugging in my original SDcard does not display my apps as installed.
Phone and SD were at about 90% full b4 this problem.
Android market let me download my paid apps again, no problem.

Did they pull the update? It doesn't appear anymore..

Re: RUMOR? Echo getting 2.3 on August 1st!
Update has been pulled according to engadget. My phone was bricked as well but I was able to get it fixed at the sprint store in about 40 minutes with no charge. Considering the update was pulled I doubt Kyocera will be claiming no fault on this issue. Not to mention all Echo's should still be under the 1 yr warranty still.

Re: RUMOR? Echo getting 2.3 on August 1st!
There is nothing you can do but manually bring everything back. However, if you root, you can use titanium backup. This will backup all your apps (and settings). If you pay for the full app, then you can run a batch process that will then restore everything. I had my phone wiped by Sprint, and within 5-10 minutes my phone was back up and running just as I had left it.

Re: RUMOR? Echo getting 2.3 on August 1st!
Don't know if this helps others, but here's how I handled mine...
I called today - told them again what I was going through and that I couldn't get to their repair shop (they were over 30 miles away which meant I couldn't get there until Sat). They signed me up for insurance ($8) and credited me back the $8, and are shipping me a new phone.
The only bad part is the Echo is back ordered and may take up to a week to arrive...
Once all this is done I'll be calling Sprint looking for a service credit for this mess. I'm back to my Hero for now - thank god I had a few extra phones on hand. - 08-02-2011, 01:18 PM #62

I can still download it but should I? I am on my 2nd echo and it is completely factory, haven't rooted it or done anything to it yet. Im scared to do it.

Re: RUMOR? Echo getting 2.3 on August 1st!
z4root never completed for me, then I got cold feet.
No root, so no full backup.
I have heard stories of rooting being used by Sprint as an excuse to deny service / repair / TEP claims. Having root to be able to get complete restore is worthy of consideration.
But, if they will not give me a new unit to solve a problem, I am not sure I would have a need to restore... - 08-02-2011, 08:59 PM #67

I downloaded it but haven't installed it. Is it going to install it automatically next time I turn phone off or do I still have control of that?

Now that I think about it, I ended up getting insurance on my replacement. I could try it again and get it replaced hassle free next time, assuming it doesn't work.

Re: RUMOR? Echo getting 2.3 on August 1st!
Yeah, they might hassle you if they discover it's rooted. Best thing to do is unroot, then uninstall the z4root app and any other apps that require root (such as Titanium Backup). Otherwise, they can't really tell that you have rooted your phone. And if your phone is bricked, there is absolutely no way of them knowing that it was rooted.

Re: RUMOR? Echo getting 2.3 on August 1st!
Just wondering, my replacement is on back order - anyone have any experience with Sprint to know how long I should reasonably expect to wait and at what point I can try to demand they give me a phone in store or a different model under their insurance?
- 08-03-2011, 02:51 PM #74
Not sure how long it will take but it shouldn't be a hassle. These phones are being bricked by an official update, make sure they know that, and there shouldn't be any problems.
