Re: Where is everyone?
There hasn't been a lot to discuss. Especially since there's not much going on with homebrews based on this device. Practical gaming, battery life and the camera LED are most of what's been mentioned. Rooting is straightforward.

Re: Where is everyone?
there is not much to share about this product, only root & upgrade new firmware..some bug reported, such as error code 8507 when upgrade OTA for new firmware 1.100, also different color, especially white color on both screen and to repair it must be replace with the new phone..
Will waiting for Custom ROM & hopefully, Gingerbread

I actually liked it. However lack of dev support caused me to upgrade... I bought this phone a few weeks after it came out. Now though I am just waiting for my Evo 3d to arrive to swap service.

Re: Where is everyone?
I think all the Echo owners in the world are in this forum! So that's like ten of us!!!
It's really too bad there has been no dev support for this device. It's a great phone. Too many people laughed it off before it was even released and then reviews stating the horrible battery life pretty much killed it, which is too bad because the battery life is not bad at all in my experience. - 06-27-2011, 11:29 AM #7
Re: Where is everyone?
Yep. Sure, if you play Pocket Legends with both screens on high brightness it will die in about 3 hours. Otherwise it runs for more than a day. I can't really see crap like 3D phones as more than a gimmick for now, and the extra space is too valuable for browsing and light office work.

Yeah the more I use my echo the more I love it. I have had mine for about 2 weeks and would not return it. I'll stick with the echo until there is a part 2 hopefully.

Re: Where is everyone?
Sounds about right. I'm wondering if the raised chrome has got something to do with audio circuitry, or it would be flatter. A switch to AMOLED could eliminate some thickness represented by backlight panels, or migrate part of the circuitry to back of upper screen. Thinking also about how to make screens ~10% bigger, for 20-25% extra surface area.
A new version should be dual-core with higher specs across the board. More work on upper plate/hinge. I would pay the premium for more exotic alloy in the hull. Big questions are power and cooling, the Imerj prototype didn't really solve either. Ideally you'd want graphics clock to change with open/close, a 40% drop in speed saves 5-10% power in games and greatly reduces heat buildup.
Not sure how I feel about gimmick features like (fake) "4G" that drains battery for minimal benefit, or ultra camera. With enough hardware power, an external display could be nice... - 06-28-2011, 08:47 AM #13
Re: Where is everyone?
The only real benefit I see with 4G is for tethering. More often than not I am somewhere that has wifi which is going to be faster and more reliable. If I'm on the move, 4G becomes so spotty it's not even worth it.
I wonder if Kyocera has gotten enough interest in the Echo to attempt an Echo 2 down the road? - 06-28-2011, 09:32 AM

Re: Where is everyone?
Hi everybody, just ordered my Echo from wirefly after playing with it at sprint

Noticed there's not alot of development going on for it though, hopefully I can change that on my days off after I get it. I'm a amateur at this stuff though so no guarantees

Re: Where is everyone?
That is depressing news, cause I was thinking the same thing. I've been tweaking my samsung moment for a long time and I'm about to get a hero to toy with and I really want to make the echo the phone I learn to dev on. Maybe I'll email kyocera to see they know when it'll come out. Probably will get no answer but worth a shot. Otherwise might be limited as far as what can be done

I am by no means a dev or even a pretend dev, but isn't a system dump only good for makeing ROMs? Don't u need the source to acctually be able to create a recovery and then kernals? Maybe if you emailed Kyocera and asked nicely, they might hook you up.....

Re: Where is everyone?
Yep, you got that right. At the least we could make a deodexed rom out of it and maybe themes but we need the source for kernals, and seeing how it's the same processer as the evo that we could probably make some good ones fairly quickly. As for the recovery idk if we need source for that, I'll have to research more into recoverys. If we don't maybe we can start in on a working version of clockworkmod at least

Re: Where is everyone?
I haven't been able to get this to work. When I do it, my phone just hangs at the Kyocera branding screen. I have also used a reboot app that will bott your phone into recovery. When I do this though, the phone reboots and then I get an image of the Android robot and an exclamation point and it won't go any further.
