Achros or viewsonic?

I was wondering what peoples opinions between these two were.

In the market for a 10" tab and these seem like the top candidates.

The archos has the price advantage, but the viewsonic has the tegra.
Other than that, what would you say is the better of the two?

Thanks in advance

On paper it's tough in terms of specs. They're very similar. I'd say that the Viewsonic has more potential because of the Tegra 2 though. The price kind of changes things. The Archos 101 is prices at 299.99 for the 8GB version and 349.99 for the 16GB compared to the 16GB only version of the Viewsonic which is priced at 379.99-399.99 depending on where you get it. These two seem to be very comparable. Personally I'd get the Viewsonic. It's already been rooted, and there's already ROMs available out and soon VaelPak (the popular Evo ROM) will be available for the Gtab as well. NO idea what the hacking community is like with the Archos tabs. Honestly, I think you're best bet is to try and get a hands on both. Best Buy usually carries Archos tablets and you can probably go to Staples or somewhere and test out the Viewsonic.

Man, Tigerdirect in Canada wants $437.99 for 16GB Archos 10. That's disgusting with the dollar almost at par. I'm waiting for the Viewsonic, if it's priced similarly I'll be making a trip to Buffalo.

Only get a ViewSonic G Tablet if you're comfortable flashing ROMs to your device, working with Clockwork Recovery, and are ready to do a little hacking here and there. It runs great once you've done these things. The folks at xda really have done an outstanding job!

That is exactly my plan. I'm quite comfortable with the clockwork and flashing roms. This is good advice though. The G Tab is nearly unusable out of the box.

I've heard the build quality is really good actually. I'd say pull the trigger on the Viewsonic. Has much more potential.

Got the Archos 70 on yesterday. It came with Android 2.1 installed. I setup WIFI, checked for update in the sertings section, automatically found update, performed update to 2.2. Now have Froyo and Market access. No Flash yet - but Archos has assured it is ready just waiting on blessings from Adobe before public release.

Very happy with:
1. Size of unit and screen.
2. Responsiveness of capacitive touch screen
3. Battery life (haven't measured exactly, but seems longer than 6hrs with heavy use).
4. Weight of device very manageable
5. Display is bright and vibrant
6. Sound is very good.
7. Video calling works just as good my Evo on Fring
8. Skype works (voice)
9. USB Host port works.

This is a keeper....

Hold that last statement, Flash isn't working properly. But Archos did direct me to an app that allows the transfer of video files over 3GB to my tab.

I went looking for a G Tab, Staples has pulled it for recalls, which I believe stem from people not understanding the limitations of the stock OS build, and everyone else said they had none in stock, no reason given.

I read somewhere that there were licensing issues with the viewsonic, as in they installed components and/or software that they weren't authorized to.
