Can't use ok google without phone being unlocked

I got a new moto 360 the other day and i have some problems with it.
1. I cant get it to use the ok google function unless i have my phone unlocked and sitting with the screen on.
2. I can't update it to the new update im stuck on 5.0.2

I'm using it with a Samsung S6 if that matters at all.

#1 I could not find others with this issue via search, so try reinstalling the app software. Nothing special about your lock screen right?

#2 5.0.2 is still the latest. We don't have 5.1 released yet.

I have never heard of this issue if the phone is unlocked but I know the okay Google voice listening feature will only work on watch if the watch is active it won't allow the search with the screen off as not currently a part of android wear functionality

I've got the same issue with the lockscreen. I'm using an unrooted Verizon Note 4 with stock lollipop and stock lockscreen.
