Android System WebView: Installing for over 40 minutes

When I started my phone this morning, there was a notification that an update for Android System WebView was downloading. It took about ten minutes for the download to complete, and now, after about 45 minutes, it's still *installing*. I've never seen this behavior before. Anyone know what's going on?
(It might possibly be relevant that I installed my new SD card last night, but I don't think that's likely.)

I think you need to re-install it. Remove and install it again.

It's a pre-installed Android app, and there's no Uninstall option, but when I found that I couldn't force the Updating to stop, I powered off, booted, and found that in Play Store/My Apps this app was showing with an Update button, and when I went through that procedure, it downloaded and installed the update in under a minute. Success!
