Here is a small list of what apps I have and I consider them essential:
-Bittorent Sync: automatically sync and backup to pc
-Androrec+: for call recording the takeaway people if they dont deliver all you asked and still charge you
    -Skype: cause everyone has it
-Firefox: cause its cool and secure..ish.
-Paypal: was good while it worked.
-MoneyWise: for accounts..syncs to pc with my own pc interface i made in ms access
-Dashcam: for recording without having to start camera app and pressing loads of buttons
    -mdscan: excellent scanner
-printershare: print via USB or wifi, any printer at all, even my prehistoric hp one.
-evenlog: to log..well..events such as when was the last time i had a shower.
    -amazon
    -ebay
    -vip access: for paypal
    -sainsburys
    -tesco
    -asda
    -lightshopper: my fav..for shopping list
-xposed framework: needs root..excellent framework for further apps like:
-quick access: start a program from lockscreen
    - app settings: set per app settings and deny permissions
    - gravitybox: completely change anything and everything in android
    -cputemp: monitor cpu temp
    -temp monitor: battery monitor
screenbl Lite: excellent app that turns screen off when mobile is flat on the table..among other things..basically controls how the screen timeout behaves.
-greenify: i have boost mode due to xposed framework...hibernates background apps when youre not using them..excellent.
-sdrescan: scan sd card to fix usb mtp not showing files at times on hte pc.
-clean master: recently installed it..cleans cache..etc..anti virus.
-avast anti theft (rooted): every phone should have one.
-fruux: to sync google calendar with reminderfox on firefox pc.
    -business calendar
    -tunein radio
    -spotify
    -netflix
    -4od
    -google maps
    -waze
    bbc news
    -hangouts
-appopsX: probably not available, i have the colortiger version..takes away permissions like camera permission on the fly instead of like normal app ops which you have to open and is quite a pain compared to appopsX.
    -nova launcher
    -es file explorer
    -sun rise pro: best wallpaper..ever.
-resizable sticky note: for well..sticky notes on the desktop.
-accuweather: for sort of accuratish weather.

These are all the apps I can't live without. What about you guys...anything to add?

    some mentions:

-- boat browser mini (if you want to avoid unusable minimal, or unusable crowded and bloated, has flash, javascript and plenty of settings)
-- chomp sms (if you want traditional or classic style messaging, is fast, very customisable)
-- k-9 mail (loads of options, can bypass android sync settings, fast, battery friendly)
-- google keep (for all your notes and lists, but sync to google account is only form of backup, fast, easy)
-- notifier widget for facebook (if you dont want a facebook app, but want notifications)
-- timely (if you need an alternative alam, its sickly and weird but gets the job done, and the default alam tone is surprisngly effective)

chromecast should work. actaully the link you gave also says chromecast should work on moto g. from what i remember chromecast doesnt actually use the phones wifi, it has its own wifi. however only certain apps work, like youtube netflix etc. i think in order to 'mirror' like miracast where you can see the desktop, you have to do something else which i do not know yet but as i have xposed frameworkr installed ill see if it works once i do manage to buy a chromecast...or miracast.
