When I send a text message the "from" field shows my number, not my name

Most annoying. Moto g Android version 4.4.4.

I attempted to search the forums (and elsewhere online). And the manual.

As the title says: Any text I send just shows my number to its recipient. I would like it to show my name, just like everyone else's text messages do.

This is my first smart phone, and I've only had it a couple of days. I've looked at all the settings I could find. I was sure I could figure this out but somehow I can't.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's at the recipient end that controls whether they see your number or your name. It will show your name if they have saved your number to their "Contacts" list and then added your name as the contact. So when you then send future messages from your number it matches it up with the one in their Contacts and shows your name instead.

Okay, thank you. That makes sense. I should have run a few more tests.
