Why is the notifications sounds not working ?

As mentioned above I have tried turning off my phone and nothing ..I even left it off over night and still the sounds don't work ..I have tried reapplying notification tones and still nothing ..

Welcome to Android Central! Sorry for the basic question, but if you go to Settings>Sound and look at your volume sliders, is the Notifications slider turned all the way up? Sometimes people aren't aware that there are separate sliders for Notifications (including Ringtones), Alarms, and Media.
