Google Now search starts listening on wired headset connection?

Google now starts and search begins upon connection of a wired headset (Jays Headphones with no mic - just a standard music headphones) on my Moto G...

Anyone else having the same issue?

Any way to disable it?

restart phone. google now once acted up with me. on that note is there any way to get rid of google now

Yes should be an option to turn off..... Just slide the 'switch' to off

mines running real good. i have jvc XX as my headphones, no mic, uses phone mic as the mic if a call comes. JVC HAFX1X Xtreme Xplosives In Ear Canal Headphones: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
comes with a case too. love em.

I had this issue with my Moto G and fixed it with this app:

However one big caveat the developer has said the app is not compatible with ICS+. That said you can get the apk from code.google (sorry if links are not allowed), it will install fine and I haven't had any issues with it. Your mileage may very, I wish I had a better solution but haven't found any others that work. It's a really annoying issue.
