I keep hearing "late summer." I'm concerned about the 5.2 screen. If true, they are taking one of their distinguished features (4.7/smaller size) and going with a "me too" strategy. This at the same time Apple will be going to 4.7. Crossing my figures my concerns will be squashed.

Hate to say it but if it's too big, I may very well be looking at the iPhone. But I think Motorola would definitely try to make the phone as bezel.. Less as possible so I'll just have wait and see.

If the x+1 is indeed 5.2 then it will be the same size or possibly smaller than the 4.7 iPhone. The iPhone will be big sure to their bezels.

Moto X: 5 3/16" length is not that much of an issue. it could be a tad longer and not get crazy.
Width: 2 5/8" current, not as much room for an increase here.
Depth: a slight increase + wireless charging IMO would be a win.
These specs, if true, with Moto's mojo will make for a nice product.
Personally, I don't find them under powered at all.

i hope they change it to something more subtle

They are having a new special this week, that ends Wednesday, where you get $100 (16 GB) or $125 (32 or 64 GB) off if you use promo code MBXISMOT . I'm guessing an announcement in August. It will also be interesting if they start a new sale this weekend.
