Sounds more paranoid than useful

You'd be surprised how many times I've heard people say that a factory reset fixed some issue they were experiencing. I'd rather do it right away than spend hours setting up my phone and decide I should have done a factory reset. No harm in doing it first thing, and it might just same you an issue or two, so I say why not?

Tell that to the people with battery meter/sensor issues.

I posted a thread about a dysfunctional battery meter and someone replied that it's pretty common with the newer Motorola phones until you've cycled it a few times. He was right in my case, two cycles and my phone is metering correctly.

cycles as in letting it run all the way down then back up set your meter right?

Well I guess that technically that's what that term means, but I used it incorrectly.

With lithium batteries you shouldn't run them all the way down, that's very bad for them. I just meant getting moderate use out of the battery and then completing a full charge, after doing that a couple times my phone was metering correctly.
