Default PSA: Moto X price drop at Costco.com and Best Buy

Today, the Moto X has dropped to $130 for Att and Verizon and $150 for Sprint on contract at Costco.com (3rd party called Wireless Advocates), plus those crazy taxes of course (approximately $50, I think). I bought my X for $200 from Costco two weeks ago and called today for a price adjustment, which they offer for 30 days beyond your purchase date.

Not only does Costco offer an amazing 90 day return policy (which I took advantage of to change from the HTC One), include an accessory pack (kinda worthless), and offer free shipping and activation, but there's an additional rebate offer on Sprint's Moto X this month only for a bonus portable battery pack (Motorola brand, I believe). A battery pack could seriously come in handy with our non-removable battery situation.

Costco also offers warranty by Square Trade for $99, which I believe is a good deal, if that appeals to you.

I know the price for a Moto X is lower now at Best Buy (check it out, $99), but factor in what Costco offers and see if it might work better for you.

It's pretty hard to justify contract AT&T anymore, since prepaid GoPhone offers the same data speeds/coverage as contract AT&T at a significantly lower cost. You have to buy the phone outright, but you come out ahead in less than 9 months.

Verizon is a different story, since some people require Verizon's vastly superior rural coverage and they don't offer any good prepaid smartphone plans. But I'd gladly accept worse rural coverage to never have to deal with verizon support again.

Contract Sprint? I can't think of a single legit reason to go with contract sprint for a smartphone anymore. There are dozens of MVNOs that give you access to Sprint's crappy network for much cheaper than contract Sprint.

I completely agree with you in theory but there are many people who are unable to come up with 600 plus bucks up front for a device.

If someone can't come up with $600, they probably can't pass a credit check for a 2yr contract anyway. My wife has a 800+ credit score, and Verizon tried to charge her a $400 deposit for a 2yr contract. We walked out the door and never looked back.

Ah Verizons support, or lack there of. I remember something happened to my device and they would even look at it because it a little scuff. Really? But I love the amount of coverage I get, out in rural areas and have data is something I might not be able to give up.
And it dropped down to $130? Cool. How low can it go~. Just kidding this phone is worth 300 even.

Every time I try to buy an AT&T phone outright they want to tie me to a contract. What is the best way to buy a new phone without being tied to a contract and thanks.

Just walk into an AT&T store and say "I'd like to buy a Moto X off contract", and they'll charge you something like $540, you activate it on GoPhone or AIO and go on your merry way. You can also buy it on the Moto Maker website, just select "Month to Month", but it's a little bit more expensive there. I bought my Crimson/orange/black Moto X on MotoMaker, then activated it on GoPhone. Didn't have any issues with anything.

Is the 32 GB in store or only through Moto maker?

Had thought about the. Dev edition on Gophone but had heard others were having problems with store activating it as Moto X instead of generic phone.

Stores in Brooklyn so far refuse to sell me a phone off contract.

Am using GoPhone prepaid service now and happy I decided to try it. My monthly data usage was between 1.5 and 2GB per month so their $60 package was perfect for me. If I ever need extra data during the month I can purchase an extra 1GB for $10. Last month I even purchased a $60 GoPhone refill card for $48 dollars. Hard to beat unlimited talk, unlimited text and 2GB data for $48 dollars.

I believe 32 GB is only through Moto Maker or the Dev Edition. I have not heard of anyone getting a 32GB in the standard black or white in store.

Verizon is so bizarre, 800 credit is excellent and I've never heard another company do that. The more I read and hear about them the bigger aholes they seem, what the.... Even ppl in the 700s wouldn't get that treatment elsewhere. Although it's probably because they know they're gonna add $1000's in overages somehow and want to make sure she can't tell them to fuc off for it. Shady bastrds
