I looked up safe mode and did it. Left it on safe mode for an hour without the screen on and the android os did not consume any battery. I restarted the phone in regular mode and most of my home screen widgets are gone. I will leave it like that for today to see if I see a big improvement then after start adding the widgets.

2hrs into the day and it doesn't look like leaving the widgets off helped. Maybe I do have to do a factory reset this weekend.

Yes that will keep the phone awake. Lack of battery drain in safe mode implies a rogue app, which may or may not be a widget. Recommend uninstalling the lesser known apps that you have installed. Also, wiping cache may help.

Battery life has been dwindling the last few days and I'm not sure why. Have restarted, wiped cache, uninstalled/disabled some apps, ran through Safe Mode, etc. Will try a factory reset over the weekend.

When I first got my phone I was averaging between 5-6 hours screen on time with a solid day of use. This barely gets me through my day now.

If you guys with battery drain issues want, post screen shots of your homescreens and/or app drawer and some of us here can probably let you know which apps are likely to be giving you problems, and how to solve it.

JungleLarry, what does your time without signal (under cell standby) look like? It looks like your phone goes in and out of strong signal. I have found that the quality of my phone signal directly correlates to battery use. Unfortunately, I have found that my phone has a hard time regaining strong signal sometimes even when I return to a place that I know has a good signal. My time without signal has been as high as 43 %. It should be 2 or 3 percent based on my use of other phones in similar areas.

Thanks for that offer. Tonight when I get home I'll screen shot my whole phone so you can see, I don't have many apps installed.

Ah, good ole HD Widgets. I use it as well and it's a BIG battery drain without all of the refresh settings off. I don't know what's up with that thing, but it did it on my X just like it did it on my GNex. If you haven't touched that one, change the settings. Check all your widgets, any that auto refresh are probably causing you issues, especially news type stuff. NFL Mobile, NHL GameCenter, anything that will update scores "automatically" or send push notifications, shut'em off. I disabled NFL Mobile on my device as a preventative measure because of what I had heard about it from other users. Amazon Local will send push notifications, make sure those are off. Hangouts would also cause some nasty battery drain, at least the last time I tried it out. There are probably others, but those are the ones I notice immediately that I use as well.

Thanks, I will go through ask those settings and remove hd widgets to see if I get a big improvement.

I did a factory reset and have added back most of my apps. Right now I'm withholding Facebook, GEL, and DashClock. Android OS use is lessened thus far.

I removed my widgets, uninsulated hd widgets, went through all my settings in apps to not update or notify and I didn't see any improvement. I guess last step is to do a factory reset. Will try that tomorrow.

Hi,

I just want to add here that all my Android problems with the Asus router were resolved by running the Merlin firmware instead of stock. It's very easy to install. Read about / get it here:

Asuswrt-Merlin - SmallNetBuilder Forums

After installed the only thing you should change is setting channel bandwidth to 20 MHz only for 2.4 GHz and 40 MHz only for 5.0 GHz. Gets me higher download speeds than I have ever had with any Android phone and no other problems including with Android itself burning battery.

I did a cache wipe and it seemed to help a little but not as much as I thought, did a factory reset last night and will see how the days goes. I only installed a couple apps I need for today and will be listening to my podcast through my nexus 7 today. Will post an update tonight

So I did a factory reset, I installed 2 apps, Netflix and Pocketcast, but I didn't even open them since installation because I'd figured I'd use my Nexus 7 today to give the phone a test run without using apps. The only app I used throughout the day was Hangouts which I need for work and to talk to my wife. I get like 5 chats per hour, which takes me less than a min to reply to. I was only connected to wifi for about 40min this morning while I got ready to leave to work. At work I did not connect to wifi and didn't shut off wifi on phone until about 5 hours after unplugging it and here are my results so far. Tomorrow I will turn on and connect to wifi most of the day to compare, but it looks like I'm still getting a lot of awake time under ANDROID OS.
