contact list for texts vs email list

Just bought my first smart phone a few weeks ago and somehow downloaded my Google address book - all thousand or so names with email addresses. is there a way to separate out the contacts to send texts to? in my old flip phone all I had were contacts I could call or text - not contacts to email.

Did you actually import them or just allow Gmail to show them? Open contacts and go to settings. See if you can uncheck Gmail. It might be under "Content to show" or "Cloud accounts". Never used a Moto X but it seems to me all you've done is allowed your Gmail contacts to appear in your contacts app, so just look in the settings to see if you can unselect it. Hope that helps!
