According to the Motorola forums - ADAM was part of a diagnostic tool used in pre-production software builds for networking quality. Unfortunately it was left on some KitKat builds.

The last post on the Android central thread has a pdf explaining more about it. The pdf states that ADAM is used for Anti-Virus purposes.
