I wonder if it's something you set up in Moto maker or if you can change it after the first setup.

i would think itll let you choose any command from the start, possibly after a software update so you can have the choice to do so.

Is there any reason to hold out hope that these improvements to Touchless Control will find their way over to the original Moto X? I mean, it's not as if there is a new piece of hardware that is making this possible... it seems to be only related to the software. Of course, they could just make the existing Moto X owners suffer, and force them to buy the new device by not updating anything.

On Google Play the description of Moto Voice seems to indicate that some kind of update is coming to the 1st gen devices.

Punit Soni (source google +) has said they will be bringing many of the New X's software advances to older phones which have the correct hardware. I'm assuming this means that 1st Gen X will get the new moto voice.

Would be pretty funny if you could make it reply to you with a custom message too. "Hey, buddy." Your phone then replies "I'm not your buddy, guy."

Looks like there are new commands too:

"Take a Selfie" = Launches front-facing camera and counts down
"Good morning" = Reads Schedule
"Good night" = Silences the phone until the next morning
