So where is the X8 Processor?

I haven't seen or heard anything about the 801 being a custom X8 or anything like the OG X having a custom S4 Pro. Anyone know anything about this? If I missed something, sorry for the post. Thanks.

The 800 series (and 801) includes two custom nodes that can be used as the device maker chooses. In this case they can duplicate the X's software needs, while other devices are using it for things like "knock on", etc.

Someone said that the new one still has the contextual cores, but i don't know if this is true or not...

I believe that the x8 was just a marketing ploy. It was probably really just standard soc with the contextual cores on the board. It was better to market it as an 8 core instead "we are using a dual-core s600(that was is named s4 pro by qualcomm for some reason) while all our competition is using the quad core s600." This year they are using the plain 801 just like everyone else.

The difference is the Hexagon QDSP6 bits which are able to be customized. These were introduced by Qualcomm in the S800 and were not available in earlier configurations, thus Moto had to implement it themselves. The effect is similar but the implementation is fairly different.

I was not sure if they chose to use the on chip functionality or if they still chose to use dedicated microprocessors...

AnandTech | Motorola Announces the New Moto X: Initial Impressions and Hands On

Motorola demonstrated this by updating a Facebook status using voice controls, and it was said that YouTube and Whatsapp could be used through voice control as well. I believe that this is still using a TI chipset to enable voice control, although I need to take some time to dig for the exact chipset.

Moto Display is also present as the second generation of Active Display, and is now proximity based along with motion-based actions, which works by using the three IR transmitters and one IR receiver. This continues to use a low power DSP that is likely another TI solution.
