Why can't I only see some of my photos to download?

[AC Question]

I have 327 photos and a bunch of videos in the Camera Roll of my Moto X Play. When I plug it into my laptop to transfer photos, it only pics up 96 photos and some of the videos. The other photos don't seem to exist for download?
To troubleshoot I have:
Restarted the phone and reconnected it to the laptop to see if that changed anything (it didn't)
Checked if I could email the photos or move them to another file (all was possible).
Searched for the photos in the folders by their name but only the first 96 show up.

THERE IS NO SD CARD IN MY PHONE SO IT IS NOT A CASE OF IT READING FROM DIFFERENT MEMORY.

None of this seemed to work and I am not sure how to fix it.

Hi, so when you say you have 327 photos - are these all in your film roll? or are they made up of camera images and downloaded files from the internet / Whatsapp etc. If it's the latter, they won't all be stored in the same place on the internal storage. Camera images are stored in DCIM, downloaded images are saved in the download folder, instagram filtered images are stored in the instagram folder.....
