Phone (Moto X Pure) not detected by computer even w/ android file transfer. How do I fix this?

[2015 Moto X Pure Owner]

I've tried two different macs and neither even recognize any device is connected when I go to Finder. Android File Transfer won't detect my phone being connected to the mac via a usb cord either... but my macs still recognize when other devices are connected. I can't figure out why my phone (Moto X Pure) isn't being detected. Do I need some kind of device management or file transfer software other than Android File Transfer or is there something in settings? Not finding any answers online... please someone help if you know how to fix this!

Have you tried a different cable?

The cable that comes with the Moto X Pure Edition is only for charging. It does not support data transfer.

Motorola device manager has the proper drivers for your phone. Have you installed this on the computer?

Also, check if your phone is in MTP mode versus the other modes. Also on my Mac Mini, I have to plug and unplug a few times before it takes.

Definitely try a different cable. I ran into a few cables i have that just charge only.
