What is the relationship between the CONTACTS app and the PHONE app?

I am befuddled because I sync my Google account contacts to the CONTACTS app and ask to display only MY CONTACTS. That works perfectly. But when I go into the PHONE app it shows ALL CONTACTS. Is there any way I can get the phone app to display only MY CONTACTS like the CONTACTS app does so nicely?

Uh, I don't understand. Isn't My Contacts the same as Contacts? I don't have anything, either in Google or on my phone, that says "My Contacts".

Not sure I understand either... The contacts shown in phone are the same as in Contacts, except in Phone it only displays all contacts with phone numbers attached to them and you can't limit by account or custom group like Contacts app. You may wish to try an alternative Phone (or Dialer) app for different sorting or display options.
