Howdy All!

I'm in the process of leaving iOS for Android. Apparently, at the best (or worst?) time since I will have a bunch of different devices to choose from.
I'm with Verizon so I have been researching the HTC One / Samsung S4 / Moto X and Droid Line Up.

I've decided against the S4, and most likely against the HTC One and so I am struggling between the Moto X or Droid Ultra / Droid Mini.

I found this link on Engadget and from what I can see - they have almost the exact same specs, outside of the screen type/size.

I really am just not sure which I want to go with.
I feel like the Mini isn't going to be much bigger than my iPhone 5 and I want something bigger. So that leaves me with either the X or the Droid Ultra.
They have the same software (yay!) but very different designs.

Anyone have any insight into anything that may have been left out in the comparison that is worth mentioning?
I know the phones are not out yet so it's hard to go with just what has been released info wise, but I'm more confused than anything.
I guess if I were to prioritize my requirements for my Android choice it would be:

Smooth & Lag-Less
Comprable Camera to the iPhone 5

My tech husband is being absolutely no help since he's an iPhone fanboy - so I'm on my own with this decision.

Thank you guys so much for your patience. I know this thread will be one of the gazillion that will be coming, but I just want to make sure I have all my features/facts straight before I go trying them in the stores in a few weeks.

If you care about accessories, go with the X. It will likely have many more accessories available for it since it will be on all carriers.

I also look at it the situation like this: the Droids are the last of the old Motorola, while the X is the first from the new Motorola. I'd rather move forward rather than stay in the past.

I frankly think the X killed the Ultra the moment it was announced...assuming VZW does get it reasonably soon. The compare is really (to me) only between the Maxx and the X. They are different...pick between them. That said, if the X isn't available soon, the Ultra would be the same phone.

From what we know so far the X and the Ultra and nearly identical as far as guts, functions, and features. Both are expected to be lagless, but there are questions about the camera on the X, and no one knows about the camera on the Ultra yet. The main difference between the phones is appearance. You're probably gonna want to wait until they are both out and take a look at them both. See how they feel in your hand, see how the screens look to you. I don't think you can go wrong with either phone it will just be a matter of which one "feels right" to you.
And Welcome to the wonderful world of Android. There's lots of helpful people around here and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

The Moto X will be a bigger screen, but still comfortable to hold and use. Not sure about the performance on the DROIDS, but the Moto X performs great, nice and smooth. Its camera is pretty good, sometimes great, sometimes not so much. But hopefully will all be tweaked via software soon. If I chose for myself it would be the Moto X. I think it's out around the 23rd on Verizon, but we won't be getting customization till November.

4.7 inch Moto X would be perfect choice for you since you want something bigger than mini. ultra is 5 inch and its too big.
I like MotoX design better, but ultra looks good too.

This is incorrect, The ultra has a 5" screen, the X has a 4.7" screen this making the ultras screen bigger.

Between the Ultra and Moto X, I fully agree Moto X. On Mini... eh. It'd be more of a Maxx vs X conversation for me as well, and even with that, I agree with the step forward and benefits of multiple carriers, potentially a bigger/better dev community and everything that goes with that (accessories, resale, etc).

Your problem is going to be the camera. Of the phones you've mentioned, only the S4 and One take comparable pics (or better in some circumstances) as the iPhone 5.

Moto X is probably the coolest Moto....but not good camera reviews.

You probably are selling Verizon phones in a mall.....but humor me and tell me your Verizon insight on why the X is better than a new Droid?

Selling phones in a mall lol wow, Just because there's reps that don't know anything where you live doesn't mean it's like that everywhere else.

Actually, I'm a device specialist. I get to test devices, train people on them and travel all over. I've used phone you have never even heard of.

So, Go ahead and talk down to me some more.

Both phone's are great, I was giving my personal opinion.

Regarding the camera.

So far it seems to be software related. This could be fixed easily. A lot of it has to do with post processing. It takes great photos, but they don't look so great after the fact.

Hey Joe, just out of curiousity why would you go for the X over the new Droids? I'm leaning towards the Maxx, mainly for the extra storage and the battery helps too. I like the design of the X a lot more as well as screen size, but I have an issue with only 16GB of storage. I'm not a big fan of this whole cloud movement. Not saying it's bad, but what happens when signal isn't great and you dont have wifi? I'd rather store things on my device if possible.

Nah. Not Afganistan, but my jobs are notorious for having bad cell signal. That tends to happen with lots of concrete and lead between you and the outside

I like the form factor better on the X. I also think updated will be faster on the X. Plus it's true when they say that these droids are apart of the old Motorola and the X is something google had a huge if not all part in designing it.

Storage is a tough thing these days, I use cloud storage and I get around fine. Both of these phones are great, it comes down to what's better for YOU.
