Earbuds or Bluetooth for Moto-X Touchless Control?

I was riding my bike home the other day, listening to a podcast when my daughter called. The call got dropped, and I couldn't quite see how to get my (wired) headset to respond to "OK Google Now" so I could call her back.

Some of this is pilot error, but it got me to thinking about replacing my earbuds, which have a lousy microphone, anyway.

So,what are the best options -- wired or bluetooth -- for a headset that will allow me to use the neat-o Moto-X touchless controls. I'm mainly interested in answering and originating phone cals while commuting on my bike, but negotiating phone calls and podcasts would be highly desirable, as well.

I'm prefer to spend less than $100,and would prefer to avoid bluetooth (does that affect battery life?).

Thanks for any insight.

I know you said no bluetooth but I love my LG Tone HBS-730s. I haven't noticed a big battery drain with bluetooth and it should only get better with 4.3.

Thanks. I've picked one up, and have paired it, but can't hear anything from my phone, yet.

I'm missing something about the setup, I guess. Any tips?
