Default Ad blocker for unrooted X?

Is there a reliable adblocker available that works with a standard X?

No, you can use AdBlockPlus, but it required proxy settings over WiFi and causes issues with certain apps not able to connect.

Within the browser you can use Firefox and it's extensions.

Nope, not without root... blocking is done by modifying system files which is restricted hence u need root

It's certainly enough to tempt me to root, but I'm so used to painlessly rooting Nexus devices that I can't bring myself to do it. Can we call me laaaaazzzzy!?
