Huh?! I've lost that feature recently, and my wife had it until yesterday also! The mic icon is missing! Anyone else?!

I'm assuming you are using the stock keyboard.

Go to Settings > Language & input > Google Keyboard. Make sure the box for Voice input key is checked.

Tried that just now and powered off and on, nothing. Mic icon still gone.

Google Voice is now working thank you!!

Alternatively, you can long press the comma key and select the microphone to open voice-to-text.
