Using drive mode to respond to text later?

When I tried the moto x a few weeks back I found that drive mode was better at sending text messages over Google now simply because it would read the message back to you and allow you to say send. Google now forces you to read it on the screen, which doesn't work when driving.
Is there anyway to use the drive mode to send a text other than when it reads you one that just arrived?

I just say OK Google text Bob and then say the message.

Yes however Google now will not read the message back to you. It says here is your message, do you want to send it. You need to read it on the screen then say send.
