Why can't I connect a 360 controller to a moto z force

Trying to connect a Xbox 360 controller to my moto z force. I have the mini USB to USB otg and I have the usb-c to mini USB adapter but no luck.

My first guess would be that one (or more) adapter isn't wired right to make it work. I've had issues getting a 360 controller to work on a PC like its supposed to, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are multiple potential issues.
