I probably wasn't clear enough with my last post. You don't want to push while the sdcard is mounted on the computer. Use Motorola PC Tools connection when you plug in your phone. Secondly, you are pushing the file straight to your phone so you don't need any folder on your computer. Just make sure to follow directions to get you into your devour_root folder and then push Superuser.apk.
Should look something like this when you type in command prompt. Make sure there is a space between Superuser.apk and /sdcard/
c:\devour_root>adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/
As far as what am I doing, at the moment I use it mostly for Juice defender to help with battery life because I can turn off my internet connection. Also for Titanium Backup for the whole system. Finding out more along the way. Also it will help if anyone gets a ROM made that is compatible with the Devour.Thanked by: - 08-05-2010, 08:15 PM #31

Okay, I got into USBDeview and did all of that. Installed MotoConnect after reconnecting my phone and it autoinstalling the drivers. MotoConnect is saying my phone is connected, typed the final "adb devices" command into cmd, no devices. What am I doingggg? D: I feel so ******ed right now. XD Gonna try a few more things, however.

do not root your phone and than upgrade the firmware. the install will fail and your phone will tell you"The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." you will no longer be able to go onto the market and download anything. Screwed.
Unless theres a fix beware. - 08-06-2010, 11:44 PM #36

K so ignore my last post you can still update the firmware as long as you haven't removed CityID apk.
Problem I'm having now is that I can't find a CityID apk that will install on phone. Guess this is one reason to be wary of deleting bloat. If you do plan on moving bloat I recommend you research how to change the program you want off from a apk to bak file. Oh and if anyone can upload or point me to a city id apk for the devour you will be a life saver. - 08-09-2010, 05:03 PM #38
You can be rooted and install the update, works just fine. (you just have to re-root after the update).
The update installs CityID.apk, which is useless since it's only a trial. (If you want to keep it, that's up to you but I didn't want it).
So I just removed it via adb, and my phone works just fine.
I also removed all the verizon apps. (VZnav, etc).
The only thing I found out was, DO NOT REMOVE Voice Dialer, as your phone will just either keep restarting or motorola blur will crash. (I did that, good thing I kept backups!).
As for dunes20, I will see if I have a backup of CityID, however I think I deleted it lol.Last edited by LanceSandino; 08-09-2010 at 05:13 PM.

@lanceSandino. thanks yah I found that one too it would not allow me to install that apk. because it was version.606 vor the 2.1 os. I need to find a .564 version. Its kul though I unrooted and got a manufactuer warranty. I had to completely kill the phone though.lol. I will be placing all my apks from prior to root though. any way i should go about that particularly. thank you

root devour without adb
First of all, nice work on finally getting this phone rooted. I love the devour but the moto support is just not there. However I was curious as to wether or not the devour could be rooted using astro file manager and android terminal (opposed to android debugging). Is this possible or is adb the only option at this point?
- 08-12-2010, 04:17 PM #42
what do you mean replacing all your apks? you mean backing up?
I'm not sure if you can copy the files in a file manage (just copy the folder to your sd). If you can't, just do it how I did it, after you rooted do the command (i believe) busybox cp /system/apps /sdcard/Folder - 08-13-2010, 10:41 AM #43

Also when running steps 8 through 11 I have not been putting a space before the "/" because when I do put the space its unable to find.Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong here. I've tried many times and I get the same thsng.
Thanks - 08-15-2010, 03:08 PM #45

Guys, this is driving me crazy. I took a few days off from trying this becauise I was stuck, thinking I could figure out what was wrong, but nothing is working. When I hit up step 8, I type "adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/" and every minute variation of it, and all I get is, "'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, opperable program, or batch file." Does someone know a way around this?

I read a tip on another forum that helped me.
"I just successfully rooted my Devour. Finally!!! I personally used the directions from TechJournal but still had to deviate from them for success.
I first downloaded the android sdk from google. I extracted the file to the c: directory.
Follow directions 1-5 from above.
In the command prompt if you extracted the sdk to the c: directory, type: cd c:\android-sdk-windows\tools and press enter then type: abd devices
Your phone should be listed as A555.
Skip step 7.
On steps 8-14: stay in the c:\android-sdk-windows\tools directory and when selecting the file to push reference the file's location.
EX: adb push c:\Devour_root\Superuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk "
hope that helps!
I had this issue while rerooting my phone last night.
be sure you did step 11, that's why it wouldn't work for me personally.
11.Run "adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals/exploid"Last edited by djratchet; 08-20-2010 at 10:48 AM.

sweet!
thank you! but i have a question(im a noob at this)
NOTE: It might be a smart idea to do "rm /system/bin/rootshell" after you have su and superuser in place as ANY program will have access to your root if you leave it (cause everyone will know the password)
where do i do this? after i have rooted right? but at which point in the cmd prompt? or better yet how do i get there to do "rm /system/bin/rootshell"
thank you oh and does anyone have any ROMs yet?
also another noob question...how do you remove the vz .apk's? like vz nav and stuff i dont useLast edited by MRHURLEY86; 08-27-2010 at 01:45 PM.

[]:!
on Step 8 i type the cmd just like ddschmidt says without specifying the name of the file to push like this "c:\devour_root>adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/" it gives me "failed to copy 'Superuser.apk' to '/sdcard/Superuser.apk': Read only file system" i'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.

i cant even get adb to run on cmd prompt, it says its not a valid command, operable program or batch file?
any suggestions?
nvm i read the above post and got the files from android sdk....worked perfectly thanx, now just have to get this damn cityID off hereLast edited by vdsltk; 08-28-2010 at 11:38 PM.
