Battery Help

My regular battery was swollen and didnt allow the cover to stay on. Saturday I purchased an extended battery and cover and charged for 12 hours prior to first use. However, it doesnt hold a charge and the phone is heating up. It is hot to touch and you cant pick it up while charging. The battery may last 12 hours this is btwn few phone calls, some texting and maybe one hr on facebook.. Per VZW ive had the phone since 2009 and there is nothing they can do.Any suggestions?

I would wonder if there is a problem with the charging system on the phone. Really shouldn't get too hot
