When I get a phone number link (in blue underlined) in a text or app like places and I click on it the phone (D3) tries to find a number in my contacts that is closest to that number. I want the phone to simply dial the number in the link I clicked on like my old (and missed) iPhone 4.

It should be giving you the choice to save the number to contacts at the very least.

    The D3 is a Droid3 I assume?

Yes it is a Droid 3. No it doesn't ask if I want to save the number.

Are you just taping the number? What happens when you long press on the number?

I tried a long press on The Olive Garden found in Places. As soon as I let go it just goes into my phone dialer with my wife's number displayed.

I am not suggesting you do this, only bringing it up for discussion. I have had problems with various facets of my phone, and, going into Manage Apps, then finding the app, then clearing data, cache, defaults, etc. has often solved my problems. I have no idea what clearing any of this for your Dialer might do. I just thought it was worth mentioning.
