using skype via wifi, don't need video

I have a skype number. I want to be able to get calls on the phone. when i turn on skype on my d3, and call my skpe number (which works just fine), it will not answer.

I understand that skype doesn't work via vzw, but shouldn't it work via wifi?

this is important to me as i am going overseas, and want to be able to get and make calls when i am in wifi range.

Are you using the "Skype Mobile" app that came pre-loaded on the phone, the Skype app loaded from the app catalog, or the modified .apk linked to in the sticky thread at the top of the forum talking about video chat?

I use the modified .apk for video chat (haven't done just a voice chat yet with it) and it works fine on wifi and 3g.

was just using the one pre loaded on the phone 'mobile'. figured that would work, but guess not?

does the one from the market or where is the modified one?
