I am prettty sure everybody wants to know when ice cream sandwich (andriod 4.0) will come to the droid 3, can anyone find some information on it(date and if it will acually release for the droid 3). Is there also another way to download the update? If we rooted our Droid 3 will the update mess up our phone? - 11-13-2011, 06:30 PM #2

Speak of the devil, Google jumped the gun and released the source code for Android 4.0 today...
...which means that root users should have an ICS ROM very shortly. It also means that Google must be announcing/launching Google Music Store or the Galaxy Nexus on the 17th.

Re: Ice cream sandwhich for droid 3???
Saw the video in Hashcode's post. It looks extremely buggy. What's the usual "fix-it" time to iron out all of the imperfections?

Re: Ice cream sandwhich for droid 3???
Nobody knows. First, Motorola has not confirmed that the D3 will get ICS. Second, they put out a post a few weeks ago that showed that it takes months to go through development, testing, carrier testing, etc., before it's ready.
So, the answer is that nobody will know if and when ICS comes from Verizon until maybe a week or two before VZW is ready to send out the update. And, if it will happen at all, it's most likely to happen after the first quarter of 2012. - 12-31-2011, 03:40 PM #18
Look on Hashcode's blog page for latest updates on his alpha ICS mod and the tools needed to use it and what doesn't work. It's coming along great.

Re: Ice cream sandwhich for droid 3???
It will mess up the phone i rooted my droid 3. it worked fine for a while then the company sent my phone a update for ICS because i put a rooted version on my phone and it broke. and had a infinet loop at the boot screen. I told them my phone froze and they gave me a brand new one for free.
end of story if phone is already rooted try to unroot to original state or if you have a os backup.

Re: Ice cream sandwhich for droid 3???
To be honest ICS isn't that great
The following things are cool, but not mindblowing
-I like how you can make app folders on the homescreen
-The new app drawer is ok
-I like the new browser (tabs, request desktop page in settings)
some apps (youtube, google plus, gmail) are giving a nice makeover
-face unlock
-improved voice dictation
-new multitasking feature
-notifications can be accessed from the lockscreen
Things that bug me (from cm9)
-The google search bar is now stuck to each homepage taking up all sorts of space. I think they are trying to get rid of the search button.
-they are trying to get rid of the menu button, so you have to search for these three little dots to get options (probably not an issue on the droid 3) - 02-27-2012, 05:56 PM #24
