Best method to get that battery cover off

Any ideas for an easy way to get the battery cover off without marring it with a screwdriver or something similar?

Try as I might, I can't get it off with just my thumbnail.

I was wondering the same thing last night. What I discovered is that if I sort of slide the cover up gently - sliding it toward the top of the phone, as if it actually was a sliding cover - it makes it easier to start prying the cover gently with my other thumbnail.
