PENTILE!!! How bad is it for you?
Just wondering if anyone else noticed the pentile as much as I.
I warrantied out my white droid 2 global last week and they were out so they sent me a droid 3. The droid 3 is wonderfully amazing in retrospect to the droid 2 in every way but the darn display.
I do like how Motorola decided they didn't need to have an inch and a half space between the glass and the LCD panel (how it was with droid 2) but the pentile is every bit as worse as everyone said it would be!
Colors are never smooth, always pixelated, and I can visibly see them refresh and then blur. Smooth edges don't exist. I definitely don't feel like I am using a qHD super screen I feel like I am using an expanded 360x480 (VGA?) display. - 12-23-2011, 10:18 PM #2

It seems to be hit or miss - either you see it or you don't. I don't; I love this display; the only time I notice any sort of weirdness is when I am scrolling in Tweetdeck, with any sort of color moving through the normal gray background. Otherwise, this is bright, very readable in sunlight.

I voted "what is pentile" because I had to look it up. I would have never known this had it. I like the display.

It is a little annoying. I notice it from time to time with pictures and video.
In truth, I notice the relatively poor color gradiants and dithering as being much more annoying.
The screen is great for general text/data/using. Tops for use outdoors really, and the battery life with it is great. That said, media and video playback is not its forte.

Re: PENTILE!!! How bad is it for you?
People's sensitivity to pentile screens may vary, but the quality of the screens also varies dramatically from device to device. My first D3 was great - I never noticed the pentile effect. i dropped it and got a new replacement with an awful screen that had very noticeable pixels whenever you did anything (e.g., swiping between screens). The replacement for that one was perfect again. I'd ask for a new one!

Re: PENTILE!!! How bad is it for you?
My screen brightness is at its lowest setting 95% of the time. I watch movies,1 - 2 per week, take videos and pictures and I can honestly say that the display output is excellent.
I really don't understand why people make such a fuss over this technology!
When I look at the technology put in this device I keep thinking back to the first time I laid my hands on a computer which was in my senior year in high school. Our school purchased 30 TRS-80 which had 4K of ram and a tape drive for storage! The first picture that I took was with a Polaroid Camera that instantly ejected the picture. When I took picture with my 110 film camera, I had to send it out by mail to be developed. I got my first video tape recorded in 1996 for $700. All my research was done using encyclopedias and school libraries. All my papers had to be type written and was done using our manual type writer! .I had to go to an arcade if i wanted to play games.
Today... We have in this little device, a Dual Core Computer, an HD VIdeo recorder, a Digital Camera, a TV, a type writer, an alarm clock, a GPS, a Messaging System, access to the internet, etc Everything is instantaneously available; TV programs, Movies, Games, News, information... etc
Oh, I almost forgot, this device is also a telephone!
It's amazing what we have. There will always be better technologies tomorrow so don't sweat the small stuff! - 01-06-2012, 06:37 PM #11
Yeah- What he said
And glad to see I'm not the only one who learned BASIC on a TRS-80!
