Volume down key stopped working
A few weeks back, my volume down button stopped working. It would sometimes work if pressed really hard, but only like 5% of the time. I called Verizon to have them send out a new phone, but they of course wanted to try resets and such... so I humored them and went with it. Well, after we completed a complete reset of the phone, the key worked again! It worked perfectly. No issues.
I then started to return my phone to the previous state, and now it stopped working again... WTF?!?
Obviously it is SW related, but what could cause this? GO Launcher? An app?
Anyone else experience a similar issue?
I am rooted, but only to remove certain bloatware, and the was done months and months ago. No issues seen after rooting immediately. - 03-04-2013, 11:35 AM #2
Re: Volume down key stopped working
Considering this thread is almost a year old now I don't have very high hopes for a response, but I need to try anyways.
Were you ever able to get this fixed? I'm having the same problem: neither volume key is working (used to be only the volume down key). I have miniMOTO v1.7 ROM installed atm, had the same problem earlier with MavROM 4.5. Not sure if my poor DROID3 is just so beat up the physical keys are actually broken or if it's a software issue. - 03-04-2013, 02:59 PM #3
Re: Volume down key stopped working
Try this: turn off the phone. Slide open the keyboard and hold the
"X""M" key while you power on. Can you use the vol down key to move the highlighted menu option? If not, it sounds like it's a hardware issue. If you can, then it sounds like a weird software issue.
I run Minimoto as well and my volume keys work fine, so I don't think it has anything to do with the ROM itself, for what that's worth...Last edited by doogald; 03-05-2013 at 09:31 AM.

Re: Volume down key stopped working
Sorry, quoting myself because I realized that I had this wrong. It's the "M" key that shows the menu. The "X" key starts the stock recovery. If you can get past the initial display - an illustration of an Android with an exclamation point within a triangle - by pressing the two Volume keys at the same time to show a text menu, then your volume keys are definitely working. But the "M" key is a better option - it shows a menu directly.
