Default gmail IMAP on native email app

    Hi folks,

I'm trying to get the native email app to connect to gmail's imap server so that emails that are deleted on either my Droid 4 or on my gmail account when accessing through the web, are also deleted from both/all gmail apps.

I notice that the gmail app itself will do this, but not the native email app. I can't seem to find a setting anywhere to do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Will

Hi, I know this will not answer your question concerning the "Email" app, however one of the reasons I do not use that app is because it's so limited.

Have you tried the K9 Email app? Supports multiple accounts and lots of IMAPy things, including purging emails from server when deleted from phone.

    Hope that helps a little

Your request is confusing. I use the native gmail app with imap settings with no worries or issues. Why not use it for yourself and save the aggravation.

    Rory,

Thanks for the response. I actually do have K9, but it doesn't do exchange and I use my droid for work emails as well. I'd like to use the native email app because then I can add the messaging app as one of my home apps (i.e., the 4 apps that are at the bottom of every page) and, thru that one icon, have access to text messages, 2 gmail accounts, and my work/exchange email account. This is driven purely by a desire to economize my home screen.

    Best,

    Will

    Xoom,

Thanks too for your response. Yes, I have no issues with using the gmail app except two things. First, I'd like to use the messaging app so that I can have access to all my accounts in one place (see my response to Rory above).

And second, I can't figure out how to add another gmail account to the gmail app. Maybe if you or someone can help me add another gmail account to the gmail app, then I'd bite the bullet and keep the messaging app for text messages and work/exchange emails and the gmail app for the two gmail accounts I use regularly.

    Best,
