13 weeks along on a D4
I've had my Droid4 for 13 weeks now. Actually, I had it replaced after one week so 13 weeks using a D4, 1 week with one, 12 weeks with a replacement.
The ear piece is extremely fragile. Drop the phone just once and the earpiece volume goes down to almost nothing. My first phone was returned for this and after dropping the second one, it does exactly the same thing. Conversations are impossible without a headset.
The battery can occasionally get very hot. Both phones did this. During use when not on the charger and while on the charger.
The battery meter will slowly go down to about half way then it'll drop to 15%.
The power button is exposed. Keep the phone in your pocket like I do and you'll often discover the phone on at the swipe screen. Sometimes, it'll reverse swipe in my pocket and the camera will be on. Other times, it'll swipe itself in my pocket to silent mode. I know when the phone is on because it'll be hot in my pocket. The power button should be recessed or shrouded.
I've seen other Android phones that turn on directly to the code screen, not a swipe first screen to then get to the code screen. This cannot be done with the D4. First the swipe screen then the code screen? Wasted moves/time. Annoyed every time.
The lights on the backlit keyboard and the tactile buttons goes on & off in medium light. There is no setting to allow the back lighting to stay on.
It's very annoying that the charge jack is on the side and the earpiece/audio jack is on the top. They should all be together. This is the least of my complaints but still baffles me why it's designed like this. It sits in my lap in the car with a cable on the left and a cable on the top. Very cumbersome while driving.
Sometimes, if I leave the screen alone after ending a call, it'll re-call the same number as if I touched the "call" button.
There's been a good number of times when the screen locks all on it's own as if I hit the button.
Functionally, the device works well, the screen is sharp and bright and the camera takes great pictures. It's everything else that causes me to give this phone a thumbs down.
I wouldn't buy this phone again nor would I recommend it to anyone.
