Motorola Droid 4 - Cannot remove contacts from favorites

I apologize of this came up already. I was unable to find it in a search.
I have a Verizon Motorola DRIOD 4 running Ice Cream Sandwich.
I recently tried removing a contact from favorites and was unable to do so.
I went into People, slid over to Favorites, selected the contact and tapped the white star in the upper right corner. It did not work.
I then went into People, press and held down the desired contact until the menu bar at the bottom appeared and tapped the yellow star. Again it did not work.
So far the only way I have been able to remove a contact from favorite was to delete the contact itself in People and then re-add it to the address book.
Can anyone tell me how to resolve this issue?
