I can't figure out how to make it work on this phone.

Verizon still has it blocked. I was able to use Isis yesterday for the first time. If you have the right credit card that may be a solution for you.

I hate the restrictions on Isis. I want Google Wallet to work with NFC.

It's my understanding that the Maxx (and any other phone with NFC) will be able to use Google Wallet for "tap and pay" once they're upgraded to KitKat.

Unless Verizon finds/demands a way to block it from the update.

That is correct. However, that is of no concern to Verizon. As we all know "once they're upgraded to KitKat" is pretty much the same as saying "in the year 2039". They've always been assholes about updates, and with this new development I find it unlikely that ANY current Verizon device will EVER get KitKat. They'll blame it on the "certification process" or some such nonsense. Sure, new devices will come with KitKat because manufacturers won't modify their devices to run an older version of Android just to appease Verizon's penchant for manipulation, but mark my words, if you own a Verizon device without KitKat, it will forever remain a Verizon device without KitKat unless you're willing to root it. Never underestimate Verizon's power to be evil.

FYI, I have confirmed that Google Wallet tap to pay now works with the new Kit-Kat update.
